About the Artist
I'm an oil painter based in London. I grew up on the south coast of Spain. For as long as I can remember, being near the water has brought with it a particular kind of anxiety: a feeling of smallness, a reminder of something beyond control.
I was always drawing and painting as a child, but stepped away from it as I grew older. For many years, art was something I kept in the background while I pursued a more conventional path in science. Returning to painting has given me the opportunity to reconnect with what I love doing. I'm currently focusing on seascapes as an attempt to sit with the discomfort of being close to the sea. What I found was that the same sea that unsettled me could also hold me still. That stillness is what I try to put into each piece.
Although seascapes have been my starting point for this exploration, I'm interested in following inspiration wherever it takes me. I'm excited to see how my work evolves in this journey. My hope is that the person who encounters my work finds what I found: that facing what unsettles us, and choosing to see it differently, is where a certain kind of calm begins.
I take on a small number of commissions each year for collectors who want a piece made for their own place and feeling. If that resonates with you, I'd love to hear from you.
